Triple Jump and Pole Vault to Feature at Peachtree Health and Fitness Expo

By Adam Kopet

To help celebrate the 50th AJC Peachtree Road Race July 4 in Atlanta, triple jump and pole vault events will be held on the preceding days at the Health and Fitness Expo, according to a press release from the Atlanta Track Club.

Headlining the elite competition are Keturah Orji in the triple jump and Sandi Morris in the women's pole vault.

The triple jump, including Orji, will take place July 2. The men's and women's pole vault competitions, including Morris, will take place July 3, with the men's competition preceding the women's competition. More than a dozen athletes are expected to take part in the three competitions, which will be USATF-sanctioned.

The Atlanta Track Club plans to donate the sand used in the triple jump and the pole vault pit to Atlanta Public Schools at the conclusion of the event.

Orji is an eight-time NCAA Division 1 champion in the long and triple jumps. She won the 2018 Bowerman award and is a former American record holder in the triple jump. Orji has a triple jump best of 48-3.25 (14.71m). She is the first field athlete to join the Atlanta Track Club Elite team.

Morris is the reigning world indoor champion in the pole vault. She has also won silver medals at the 2016 Olympics and the 2017 IAAF World Outdoor Championships. Morris is one of three athletes who have cleared at least 16-4.75 (5.00m), indoors and outdoors combined.
